The fine print in plain language.
Each state page examines significant bills from its most recent completed legislative session, including laws that were enacted and proposals that were vetoed when the veto itself shaped the policy debate. The posts explain what each bill would change, who would be affected, how its enforcement or administrative structure would work, and what concerns become visible in the fine print. Some reviews address a single bill. Others group related measures when they reveal a broader legislative pattern within that state. Every analysis traces its claims to the bill text, vote record, fiscal material, veto letter, court authority, or another clearly identified source.
This is our read of the bill. We encourage every reader to read the legislation for themselves and reach their own conclusions. Every post links to the enrolled text, the fiscal note, and the roll call it draws from.
